Making the most of Le Verdon sur Mer

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Le Verdon’s cruise dock is around two miles/3.4 km from the village, with neither bus nor train service. 90 % of passengers choose a cruise-organised Bordeaux excursion.

Independent exploration is difficult from this port. There are no taxis, and the only self-guided exit is the ferry to Royan, which is at least a 75 minute walk away.

Ask the cruise line whether a shuttle to the ferry will operate.

At Pointe de Grave on the Gironde estuary, close to major vineyards, Le Verdon sur Mer has broad Atlantic and estuary beaches, forest and marshland, cycling routes and hiking trails. The waterways offer different scenery too: sail the estuary or visit Cordouan lighthouse, undoubtedly among the world’s most beautiful.
