Arriving at the port
This is a tender port. A large marina that sometimes welcomes up to 200 boats.
Le Marin is one of the two sub-prefectures on the island with extensive recent economic and commercial development resulting from the government’s decentralization policy. The church, one of the most beautiful historic monuments in Martinique, was built in Jesuit style and dates back to 1766. Amateur yachtsmen know the bay as the best mooring spot on the island.
Getting around
A popular cruise organized excursion: Martinique Panorama: Leave Le Marin for a panoramic drive along the southwest coast of Martinique through the village of Trois-Îlets. Enjoy a guided visit to the Pagerie, where Empress Josephine of France spent her childhood. Continue your journey along scenic inland roads, heading for the city of Le Francois on the east side. You’ll visit an exceptionally well-maintained plantation house, complete with original period furniture. See the sugarcane fields and stop at an old rum distillery for a tasting before returning to port along the southeast coast.
Due to the Taxi Union demands, there is no public transport from the airport, which means that you can either hire a car or take a taxi. Be warned that taxis operate an extortionate 40% surcharge between 8PM and 6AM as well as on Sundays and
Money
Martinique is a dependent territory of France and uses the euro as currency. US dollars are not accepted in shops, but some stores and many restaurants and hotels take credit cards.
Staying connected
French and Creole patois are spoken on the islands; English is known by some inhabitants.
