At the foot of the Massif des Maures, Le Lavandou occupies the heart of southern France's Mediterranean coast. Its long sandy beaches, small wild inlets, major international marina and sport-fishing port create a paradise for anyone who loves the water.

Le Lavandou takes its name from the lavender decorating nearby fields and is a favourite stop for visiting yachtsmen. Close by is another flower-named village, Bormes-les-Mimosas, considered one of the loveliest towns in France.

Across France, most shops, businesses, information services, museums and banks open all day. Smaller shops and enterprises may instead close for lunch between 12.30pm and 2pm. Big shops generally operate from 8 or 9am until 6.30 or 7.30pm Monday to Saturday, while smaller shops trade Tuesday to Saturday, with some opening on Monday afternoon. Boulangeries and food shops are usually available when others shut, normally staying open until noon on Sunday.
