Picturesque Lærdal sits beside Sognefjord, Norway's longest fjord, within a day trip of Oslo and Bergen. It makes an ideal base for a fjord holiday, placing some of the country's most dramatic mountain and waterside scenery a short distance from principal attractions.

Nearby sights include Borgund Stave Church, Nærøyfjord ferries, Flåm Railway, Jostedal Glacier, Old Lærdalsøyri village centre and the well-known Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre.

Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre stands beside the Lærdal River, one of Norway's best-known salmon rivers. It introduces visitors to Atlantic salmon, the legends surrounding it and salmon fishing through the following attractions:

Features include an observation pool containing wild salmon from the Lærdal River; exhibitions on natural science and cultural heritage; a prize-winning Atlantic salmon film in Norwegian, English, German, French and Japanese; and fly-tying demonstrations, a workshop and fishing simulator.

The Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre also sells permits for salmon and sea-trout fishing in the Lærdal River. Only 200 metres from Lindstrøm Hotel, it added a new interactive exhibition in 2006, and visitors may try fishing with the popular simulator.
