Arriving at the port
Kangaroo Island is a tender port.
The ship anchors at Penneshaw. Its fixed platform has several levels for different tides and lets passengers embark and disembark, with two tender vessels able to pull alongside at once.
Beautiful Kangaroo Island offers much more than kangaroos. Australia's third largest island has remarkable natural beauty, unspoiled beaches and a unique chance to see many animals in their local habitat. Alongside a healthy kangaroo population are wallabies, koalas, seals, sea lions and goannas, a lizard type growing up to a meter long.
Penneshaw is a pretty small country town on Kangaroo Island, with about 1500 people.
Penneshaw's beach is called Hog Bay, an excellent sandy swimming beach popular with families for its picnic spots. Above it is a grassy picnic reserve with bar-b-cues.
Getting around
Penneshaw's Gateway Visitor Information center supplies maps and brochures, gives tour times and costs, and can assist with bookings.
Seal Bay Conservation Park is one of the island's best-known attractions, offering an unusual chance to see Australian sea lions close up in their natural habitat. Guided tours provide insights into these fascinating creatures' lives.
Families can visit Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to see and interact with a range of Australian animals, including kangaroos, koalas and reptiles.
No taxi services operate on the island.
