Kaikoura District delivers some of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenery, blending a striking coast and peninsula with some of the South Island’s tallest mountains. Its distinctive sea environment supports seals, dolphins, whales and albatross. The setting makes Kaikoura unforgettable for visitors who want outstanding eco-tourism, rich Maori and European heritage, and relaxing or exhilarating land-based activities.
Getting around
Daily excursions by boat, flight and land offer opportunities to see whales, dolphins, sea-birds and other marine species. With wetsuits supplied, visitors can even enter the ocean environment with dolphins and seals.
