Arriving at the port
Gladstone provides a gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, with direct access to Heron Island, Lady Musgrave Island and the historic town of 1770. Visitors are also welcomed by the $45 million foreshore re-development, intended as a world-class family and lifestyle precinct.
Gladstone harbor is Australia's largest natural harbor, and ships dock at Auckland Point.
As of April 2022, Gladstone Ports Corporation had been expanding its East Shores Precinct project, including a new cruise terminal plaza. The expansion also includes a water play park, waterfront boardwalk with a viewing platform, and plentiful open green space for play.
Built on hills above the natural deepwater harbor that underpins its economy, Gladstone is a dynamic modern city with a sub-tropical climate. Its islands, waterways and beaches support year-round boating, fishing, swimming and surfing.
