Arriving at the port

Only a few minutes from Geelong city centre, Cunningham Pier is a sight in its own right. Its iconic end building contains an elegant brasserie and a bar with views worth savouring.

The berth accommodates ships with a total length of 188 meters. Larger vessels anchor nearby and use their tenders to bring passengers ashore.

Geelong's renewed waterfront can fill many sightseeing hours, with cafes, restaurants, Art deco sea baths and yacht-club marina. Colourful curved bollards along the promenade pay tribute to the city's historic characters.

Shops and services generally operate Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and until lunchtime Saturday. Many city and larger-town shops stay open late Thursday or Friday, usually to 9pm, as well as all Saturday. Shopping malls often open Sunday too.

Remote-area roadhouses provide all essential traveller services and are generally open 24 hours daily on major highways. Even far-flung tourist areas often have offices open every day, or at least weekdays plus weekend mornings, while urban information centers usually follow normal shopping hours.

Museums, galleries and attended historic monuments often open every day, although rural-community attractions may keep irregular hours.
