Fremantle

The harbor at Fremantle is in the mouth of the Swan River that flows from Perth to the coast.

Ships dock at Victoria Quay, located an easy walk from the town center of Fremantle and the railway station. Taxis are generally available outside the terminal building.

Fremantle Trams. Climb aboard at any of the six conveniently situated stops and will show you Fremantle from its bustling harbors, it's beautifully preserved architecture, the convict built Old Fremantle Prison and the famed Cappuccino Strip and Markets.

A local favorite, the Shipwreck Museum, is free for everyone. It is recognised as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the southern hemisphere.

Perth is easy to reach by train, which costs about $5.00 for an unlimited day ticket and takes only 30 minutes to get there.

Rottnest Island, or 'Rotto' as it is affectionately known by locals, is a small island situated just off the coast of Perth famous for its snorkeling, diving, surfing and swimming

Fremantle and Perth have almost become one and the same and there is no discernible break between where one ends the next starts. A train line runs between the two and, if the train stops at all stations, it's around a 30-minute trip.

The Fremantle Market - Connected, there are two sheds that houses fruit sellers and a variety of other items that you may wish to purchase, be it souvenirs or music CDs. Also, open on Sundays. There is a large Cole's Supermarket one block away from the cruise dock.

Many nice pubs are located right on Victoria Quay! Take in the fantastic view with a locally brewed beverage as the ships go in and out of the harbor!

E Sheds Markets is a converted warehouse now housing a food court, bar, outside and inside seating, toilets, souvenir shops, clothes shops and antique and vintage shops. It also has live music some days.

Enjoy a coffee or meal on Fremantle's famous Cappuccino Strip, a vibrant area lined with cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Festival of Fremantle: This 10-day festival in November is the city’s largest annual event, featuring street parades, concerts, exhibitions and free performances.

Shops and services are generally open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and until lunchtime on Saturday. In cities and larger towns, many shops stay open late on Thursday or Friday evening - usually until 9pm - and all day on Saturday. Shopping malls are often open on Sundays as well.

In remote country areas, roadhouses provide all the essential services for the traveler and, on the major highways, are generally open 24 hours a day. In tourist areas, even ones well off the beaten track, tourist offices are often open every day or at least through the week plus weekend mornings; urban information centers are more likely to conform to normal shopping hours.

Tourist attractions such as museums, galleries and attended historic monuments, are often open daily, though those in rural communities may have erratic opening hours.
