Making the most of Fowey

Arriving at the port

What a sight to see these enormous ships come through the narrow harbor entrance, turn in the middle of the river and be pulled upstream to their mooring, the commercial jetties are concealed by a natural bend in the river.
Larger ships anchor outside the estuary.

Fowey has a strong Celtic connection, maritime history and many wonderful gardens within 30 minutes drive. The fantastic Eden project is only 16kms from Fowey. The town has something to offer all cruise ship passengers - scenery, a shopping destination and an abundance of possible excursions.
Getting around
The town of Fowey is quite easy to navigate on foot. Most of the shops and many of the sights in town are situated on what essentially is one street that runs parallel to the River Fowey.
If you decide to spend your time in Fowey, you could enjoy a ride over to Polruan, directly across the river from Fowey, on the small ferry boat that runs continually between the two towns. There's no one "must-see" sight in Polruan, but it's an interesting little place to stroll around (despite some steep hills), and you will get wonderful views of Fowey and the river/harbor without this little side-trip eating into your overall time ashore.

Food and shopping
Fowey town, normal shopping hours apply, 9:00am - 5:00pm. All shops are within an easy walking distance of Albert Quay (Tender drop off point).
Local good buys and specialties: Cornish pasty, Cornish cream tea, Antiques, Fresh fish.
Money
The currency throughout the UK is the pound (£). You may also hear the slang term quid for pounds. Scottish bank notes are frowned upon in other parts of the UK, so change the notes before leaving Scotland.
Cash machines (ATM) or less formally 'holes in the wall' are very widely available and usually dispense £10 and £20 notes.
Visa, Mastercard and Maestro, are accepted by most shops and restaurants.

English is spoken throughout the country, but sometimes with heavy accents!
