Arriving at the port
Most larger cruise ships anchor and tender their passengers close, 1 mile, to the center of town. Taxi's can be ordered.
Fishguard and Goodwick is one community with a population of 5500. Fishguard and Goodwick train station is in Goodwick, the other at the port (Fishguard Harbour).
The Last Invasion of Britain took place in 1797 when 1400 troops from Revolutionary France lasted at Carregwastad, three miles west of Fishguard. This invasion caused panic in London which led the Bank of England to produce promissory notes, being the beginning of paper money. The invasion lasted only a few days, being defeated by alcohol, a rapid assembly of local forces and the reluctance of conscript soldiers to take their role seriously. This small town holds many events through the year, notably Folk Music Festival in May Bank Holiday weekend, The Fishguard International Music Festival for 10 days in late July and a great Jazz Festival in August Bank Holiday weekend.
Ein Hanes (Our History) is a small volunteer run heritage centre in the centre of Fishguard with a huge range of items from the fascinating history of this area.

Fishguard and Goodwick is a gateway to the northern part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, giving access to the world famous all Wales footpath.
Tours from here can take in the hundreds of neolithic remains and include the wonderful Preseli Hills, from where the bluestones in Stonehenge, Wiltshire over 130 miles away were taken – who by, when and how no-one knows.
The smallest UK city, St Davids is 15 miles to the South-West with its ancient Cathedral.
