Arriving at the port
The town is within walking distance.
Devonport is often called the gateway to Tasmania, as it receives the daily Bass Strait ferry from the mainland. With around 25,000 residents, it is essentially a large town. West Devonport extends mainly between the Don River on the West and Mersey River to the East, while East Devonport is immediately across the Mersey from the town centre. Getting around
Four kilometers west of Devonport, the Don River railway runs trains every hour from 10am until 4pm, 7 days per week.
Nearby places
Devonport is the nearest arrival point for the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, around one hour’s drive from the jewel of the Tasmanian Wilderness.

Opening Hours and
Monday to Friday, shops and services generally open 9am to 5pm and until lunchtime on Saturday. Many in cities and larger towns open late on Thursday or Friday, usually to 9pm, as well as all day Saturday; shopping malls are often open Sundays.
Rural roadhouses offer all essential services and on major highways are generally open 24 hours a day. Tourist offices, including those in remote visitor areas, often trade daily or at least weekdays plus weekend mornings; urban information centres are likelier to follow normal shopping hours.
Museums, galleries and staffed historic monuments are often open daily, although rural sites may keep irregular hours.
