Making the most of Coron Busuanga Island

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

On July 16, 2024, the Philippine government introduced a 'cruise visa waiver' to make entry easier and more seamless for visa-required foreign visitors holidaying aboard cruise ships. Eligible travellers can apply through the Bureau of Immigration's (BI) e-services portal.

The port at Coron lies in Coron Bay, close to the town centre, and some ships use tenders.

Bring a printable map along.

Coron is both an island and, together with Busuanga Island, a municipality within the Calamian Group in northern Palawan, Philippines. Its small population of 32,000 supports fishing, tourism and diving among sunken Japanese warships. Forested limestone sea cliffs rise across Coron Island above the channel between the two islands.

02

Getting around

At Palawan's northern tip, Coron Island is known for several Japanese shipwrecks dating from World War II. Attractive rock formations around the wrecks create excellent snorkelling, with underwater visibility reaching up to 80 feet.

03

Money

The Philippine peso is the local currency.

Major establishments in the Philippines' larger cities widely accept American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa. ATMs are also available.

04

Staying connected

Most Filipinos speak English confidently, regardless of their education level.
