Making the most of Corinto

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

The dock is a 1km walk from town, although the town itself has little visitor appeal.

Puerto Corinto serves as the gateway to Leon and Managua.

Browse Puerto Corinto's small shops and walk among its many churches. This quiet settlement on Nicaragua's tropical Pacific shore provides access to the rest of the country.

02

Getting around

Most cruise passengers choose an excursion organised by the ship.

03

Nearby places

Managua, Nicaragua's capital, spreads along the southern bank of an enormous lake bearing the same name. Despite natural disasters, including two earthquakes this century, several significant historic structures survive, among them the recently restored National Palace.

León is the country's intellectual centre. Monuments to the revolution, including vivid Sandinista murals, appear throughout the town, while old colonial buildings and La Asunción Cathedral surround its attractive central square.

04

Food and shopping

A pleasant local market is arranged in stalls.

If you bring home one item from Nicaragua, consider a hammock; Nicaraguan examples are exceptionally well made and comfortable.

05

Money

The currency is the Córdoba (NIO).

06

Staying connected

Free WiFi is available in the park behind the market.

Spanish is the official language, although English speakers can be found in larger cities.

07

Opening Hours and

Public Services trade Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 2.00pm. Retail Stores & Specialty Shops open Monday to Friday from 9am – 1.30pm and again from 5pm – 9pm, then Saturdays from 9am – 2pm.
