Ships cannot dock here, so passengers are tendered ashore.
Cid harbor is the departure point for the Whitsunday group’s 70-odd islands, perhaps the most familiar and developed Barrier Reef islands. Captain Cook named the group after sailing through on July 3, 1770. Islands lie on either side of Whitsunday Passage, within 50 km of Cid harbor, and cruises depart from here. The Barrier Reef itself is at least 60 km offshore, with Hook Reef the closest section. Getting around
Adventurous walkers can follow the walking track to Whitsunday peak, making sure to pack plenty of water, or take the pleasant walk from Sawmill Beach around to Dugong Inlet.
