Making the most of Bessaker

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Bessaker is a small Norwegian Sea village in Åfjord Municipality, Trøndelag county, with roughly 180–200 residents. This quiet fishing community is valued for its natural scenery and traditional coastal culture.

Smaller Hurtigruten cruise vessels visit during summer, generally May–September, through the Open Village programme. The initiative lands passengers directly in coastal communities such as Bessaker, Træna and Sæbø, prioritising meaningful local encounters over mass tourism.

02

Sightseeing

Calls are generally intimate and centred on the community, giving guests opportunities to meet residents and experience genuine Norwegian coastal life.

03

Money

Norway’s currency is the Norwegian crown, or Norske krone, abbreviated kr. An øre is 1/100th of a krone. A rough conversion is 1.00 EUR = about 9 NOK, and Norway is one of the world’s most expensive countries.
