Making the most of Barbuda
Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.
Arriving at the port
The cruise terminal for Barbuda is typically located at the Codrington Lagoon, about 1-2 kilometers from Codrington, the main settlement on Barbuda.
Mostly tall sailing ships use this port.
This is mostly a half a day "beachy day". You will be tendered ashore.
Step onto the silky sand at Pink Beach, Barbuda's centerpiece beach. Nearly eight miles of deserted oceanfront stretches from Spanish Point to Palmetto Point, and the snorkeling is fabulous. The champagne color of the sand glows rose thanks to the crushed coral in the mix. And it's possible to stroll the beach for miles without seeing another soul.
With coral reefs and shipwrecks aplenty it makes Barbuda a haven for novice snorkelers or expert deep-sea divers.
Getting around
The Frigate Bird Sanctuary is the largest frigate bird gathering in the world, with an estimated 2,500 of these graceful birds living there.
Nearby places
The Martello Tower is situated on the south coast of Barbuda. It was built in the early 1800’s as a defense base for the British, to stand guard over the river landing, the island’s original quay.
Money
The official currency is the EC dollar, but US dollars are used for rooms, tours and car rentals.
