Making the most of Abidjan

Arriving at the port
Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast, is a vibrant cruise destination with much to offer. Political instability and the civil war of the past decade have nevertheless affected the city: neglect, poorly maintained buildings and public spaces, and the departure of many foreigners have left an atmosphere of "lost glory".
The central business district, one of Abidjan’s best-known areas, is approximately 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) from the port. Depending on traffic, the journey takes about 10 to 20 minutes by car.
La Pyramide is a high-rise in Abidjan’s Plateau area, the largest city in Ivory Coast. Construction began in 1968 and finished in 1973.
National Museum of Abidjan: a worthwhile, decent little museum in the city’s central Le Plateau district, and certainly one to consider visiting.
Nearby places
Grand-Bassam is farther away, but its colonial architecture and beautiful beaches make it worth visiting. It is about a 45-minute drive from the port.
Food and shopping
Marché de Treichville is a busy market for local crafts, fabrics and fresh produce.
Marché Cocovico is known for its lively atmosphere and broad range of goods.
